Who says you can’t dye colored wool roving?  Many exciting results come from dyeing gray And light brown roving with the new Indigo method.    Roving and Indigo dye will be provided.

Elementary natural dyeing using camelid fiber.  Students will receive roving and have a chance to dye the fiber in red, blue, yellow and perhaps green colors.  General natural dyeing procedures will be discussed.

Students will be given several strands of white bone beads to dye in vats of natural dye colors.  Colors will probably include blue, red, and yellow.

Students will prepare and use cochineal to dye yarn purple or red.  One skein of yarn will be supplied.

Students will use indigo to tie-dye a white T-shirt. Shirt provided, sorry size LG only. Indigo will be used as the dye.

We will use ancient Japanese techniques to add color and texture to silk. Students will create an elegant, airy, light, textured silk scarf or wrap. Starting with a blank 35″ x 108″ piece of Habotai Silk, students will dye, discharge, and use shaped resist techniques. All materials provided.
