This is a thousand year old Japanese art of embellishing balls made of fabric/fiber scraps, yarn and thread. Originally, these balls were made by mothers to give to their children to play with. Over time, women began to embellish these simple spheres with embroidery work. Today, they are given as gifts.

Using recycled wool fabric hooked through a burlap backing, students will create a unique and colorful flower with a hand hooked center and prodded petals. Your finished piece can have a pin back attached and be worn as an adornment on your coat, purse or hat. Some outside time may be needed.

Use seed beads in a variety of colours and a simple stitch to make a lariat as long as you like, as many strands as you like, switching up the colours as the mood strikes you. All strands of the lariat are attached to a ring at one end while the other ends which pass through the ring have larger beads to weight them.

Class Fee: $45 Includes All beads and findings, needle, thread and photo-illustrated step-by-step instructions. Choice of colours. Scissors, beading mats and thread conditioner will be available for use during class.
Level: All - This class is suitable for all levels, including those who have never stitched with seed beads before - the only requirement is that you are able to see the beads (they're small!) and thread your own needle (the holes are small too).
Equipment: Glasses if needed for close-up work. Task lamp if desired

Make a wind chime out of wine bottles by using a bottle cutter to cut multiple rings from empty wine bottles and assemble rings into wind chimes.

100+ years ago, creative people adapted an ancient textile art, twining, to make rag rugs. With instructor Kathryn Tucker, a small 22"x24" rug will be twined on a frame type loom. Approx 8 hours needed to finish. **Students must call Kathryn regarding fabric.

Class Fee: $12 Includes Frame loom.
